Rainy weather

It's been a little rainy and cool this week for spring break.  Good thing I didn't have any beach plans.

The weather does make for nice reading on the couch days though.  I've finished one book and I'm halfway finished with a second one.  

It's also been a good week to have a lunch date with my favorite man.

Spring Break

It's no secret that teachers love Spring Break.  I love my students and my job, but its nice to have a week to just chill and relax.  I believe all professions should have a Spring Break....it would make for happier employees I'm sure.

I kicked off the start of my break with a stop by Sonic for a strawberry limeade.  I also brought home some beautiful flowers that have been growing in our classroom garden.  My students planted the bulbs back in October and we've been enjoying them for the past two weeks.  I decided to go ahead and cut them and enjoy them at my house this week since I don't think they'll last much longer in the garden.

Baby Chicks

My class at school had a chance to house an incubator and hatch some baby chicks.  It took about three weeks of constantly reminding the kids that they chicks weren't ready to hatch yet.  Haha!  After the second day some of them could swear they saw a couple eggs wiggling around.  

Monday morning we arrived at school and three of the eggs had hatched!  By Tuesday we had four more baby chicks.

Today the chicks had to go home with their owners and we were all a little sad.  I have to say though, it will be a lot quieter in the classroom now that all the little chicks are gone.

First Day of School

Today is my seventh first day of school!  It's my third year as a Montessori teacher which makes this year extra special.  I have a group of five year olds that have been with me the past two years.  They started out as 3K our first year the school was open and this is their final year with me.  I also realized I've never shown y'all a peek at my classroom.  So here it is...all ready for my sweet kiddos to come back and fill it up!

I forgot to take a picture of the science shelf and some shelves don't quite have everything out at the moment.  But...there you have it...my Montessori classroom!

Food poisoning and InstaFriday

What a week this has been...
I'll save you from the gritty details, but early Tuesday morning J and I both woke up with food poisoning from chicken we cooked at our own house!  One of the most terrible parts was that we both had it so neither of us could help the other one.  My dad came over mid day and brought saltines, Gatorade, medicine and cooked us rice.  We both developed low-grade fevers which are hard to get rid of when you can't keep any Tylenol down.  By Wednesday J was feeling better enough that he needed to go into work, but I on the other hand didn't make it in until Thursday (which made my week a two day work week...haha).  I haven't had a huge appetite since then but today I woke up feeling so much better than I have all week.  I tell you...food poisoning is NO JOKE!


On a much happier note...and since today is Friday I leave you with a couple of Instagram pictures...

Back to school

It's that time of year again...time to dust off the lunchbox, get into the happen of picking out my clothes the night before, and start getting in bed early!  

School starts tomorrow!

This is my 6th first day of school and I still get nervous.  Tomorrow will be a whole new experience for me though because the majority of my class was with me last year.  I've got a handful of new 4s and 5s but the rest of my crew should remember the basic routine and rules from last year.  My 3s don't actually start until next Tuesday...that's when things start to get interesting!

I've already packed my lunch, painted my toenails (priorities ya know) set out my clothes for the morning and now I'm ready for bed...and its only 8:15.  BUT...I need to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for those sweet babies in the morning!  Goodnight y'all...see you sometime in September when life begins to normalize again!  

So long sweet summer

I can't believe that summer is almost over...it really feels like just yesterday I was posting about the start of summer.  
This happens to me every year...I make all kinds of plans and ideas for how to spend my time and by August I wonder what I did with my time for the last two months!  I did have a great summer though and kept myself busy.  I spend a lot of time:

hanging out at my house

reading books (mostly re-reading HP for the big movie premier)

laying by the pool

doing laundry

having lunch with friends

I love summertime so much...I would even venture to say that it is my favorite season.  Things I love about summer:

staying up late knowing that I can sleep-in in the morning

warm (and somewhat hot) weather

hanging out at the house and being lazy

freedom people seem to have and the willingness to get a group of people together on a short notice

shorts, summer shirts and sundresses

While all these things make me miss the wonderfulness of summer there is something about the first day of August that kicks me into school mode.  I've already been up to the school to start putting my classroom back together.  I've seen my roster which makes me so excited to see all those sweet little faces again.  Most of my class are kids from last year who get to stay with me until they go to first grade but there a few new names on the list this year.  I am totally a teacher at heart and one of the reasons I know this is because I get so excited to see all the school supplies filling the shelves of Target.  It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes for You've Got Mail:

So here's to the end of summer and the start of a brand new school year!
